Senator Leila De Lima was said to have advised her former security aide Ronnie Dayan to go into hiding, House justice committee chair Rep. Reynaldo Umali said on Wednesday.

“Sinabi niya na 'yun daw ang advise ni Madame. Tinanong ni [House Majority Leader] Rudy Fariñas sino 'yung Madame, e si Senadora nga raw,” Umali said in an interview on GMA News' Unang Hirit.

Umali said he and Fariñas had a brief talk with Dayan on Tuesday at the House of Representatives.

Umali, however, said they did not delve into that topic.

"Hindi na namin pinursue 'yun pero ang advice came from Senator De Lima na siya ay magtago na,” Umali said.

In the same interview, Umali confirmed that Dayan was indeed arrested by the police.

"Tinanong namin sa pulis na nag-escort sa kanya. Siya ay nahuli talaga. Medyo mahaba-habang proseso ito, talagang kinasing. At nung sighted na siya, tsaka lang pumasok,” Umali said.

Dayan was arrested on Tuesday morning in La Union by joint elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-La Union, Provincial Police Office La Union, Provincial Police Office Pangasinan, and the Bacnotan police station.

Dayan was arrested at Sitio Turod in Barangay San Felipe in San Juan town.

Umali said Dayan’s arrest will provide closure to their investigations.

“This will only provide closure that we wanted and the people wanted,” Umali said.

“Dati, hindi naman dapat naging malaking issue 'yung relasyon. Hindi naman 'yun ang tinatalakay natin pero hindi nga inaamin, dumating sa ganun. Pero hindi na rin na-pursue. Ultimately, inamin din. Sayang, nag-suffer 'yung kredibilidad ni Senadora dito. Pero ang hinahanap namin talaga ay 'yung missing link,” he added.

Umali said they are still open to inviting De Lima to their probe.

"Kahapon nung ako ay in-interview sabi ko, 'We are open. This is her last opportunity to participate.' So nasa sa kanya po iyon,” Umali said.

Dayan on Tuesday admitted that he had received money from suspected drug lord Kerwin Espinosa in behalf of De Lima.

He also said he had a 7-year relationship with De Lima.

De Lima, a former justice secretary, had earlier admitted in an interview on "Bawal ang Pasaway with Mareng Winnie" that she once had a relationship with Dayan.

De Lima has repeatedly denied receiving any drug money.

A P1-million reward was earlier offered for the arrest of Dayan, who was ordered arrested after he skipped the investigation by the House of Representatives on the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison that allegedly benefitted De Lima.
