Duterte to Obama: Go to hell

MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday took another jab at United States President Barack Obama, this time telling the leader of the Western superpower to “go to hell.”<br /><br />
Duterte again lambasted the US and the European Union for criticizing his war on drugs, and said that he is no longer impressed with the world’s most powerful country.<br /><br />
“Instead of helping us, ang unang tumira itong State Department. So you can go to hell. Mister Obama, you can go to hell. EU (European Union), better choose purgatory,” Duterte said in a speech delivered in Makati.

Duterte earlier made headlines after he issued expletives prior to his scheduled meeting with Obama at the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Laos last month. This prompted the White House to cancel the two leaders' meeting.

Duterte apologized for his remarks but has not dialed down on his rhetoric against the US.<br /><br />

MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday said he is working to ensure that the Philippines won't have to rely on international allies.<br /><br />
Speaking to the Philippine Marines in Fort Bonifacio, Duterte said he will work to make the country survive on its own.<br /><br />
"Please understand. This republic will rise. This Republic of the Philippines will continue to be great. Sabi ko, darating ang panahon, hindi na natin sila kailangan lahat. We will survive on our own. We will fight our wars on our own, and we will win as a country," Duterte said, referring to his statements against the U.S. government for criticizing his war on illegal drugs.<br /><br />

MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday apologized to the Jewish community after he compared his war on drugs to that of Adolf Hitler killing the Jews during the Second World War.<br /><br />
In a speech during the opening ceremony of the 37th Masskara Festival in Bacolod City, Duterte said he never intended to offend the Jewish community, adding that he was merely reacting to those comparing him to Hitler.<br /><br />
"I would like to make it now, here and now, that there was never an intention on my part to derogate the memory of the six million Jews murdered by the Germans," Duterte said, explaining that his statement was in response to critics who have been comparing him to Hitler.<br /><br />

It was never my intention but the problem was I was criticized using Hitler comparing to me. But I was very emphatic, sabi ko ang patayin ko, three million addict. It had nothing to do (with the Jews)," he said.
