President Rodrigo Duterte says 'goodbye' to America during his four-day state visit to Beijing, China.
Duterte bid farewell to our long-time ally the US in his speech in front of the Filipino community in Beijing saying, "Your stay in my country was for your own benefit. So time to say goodbye, my friend."
"I will not go to America anymore. I will just be insulted there," he continued.
"What kept us from China was not our own making. I will charter a new course," he added.
Regarding the territorial disputes between China and Philippines, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said, "Anyone who truly wishes for peace, stability, development and prosperity in the Asia Pacific (should welcome Duterte's visit)." This could be a good start for a friendship between the Philippines and China.
Infrastructure cooperation and economic ties will be discussed in the state visit.
China even offered to train Filipino cadets in "anti-illegal drug and VIP security protection".
