Senator Leila de Lima on Thursday cautioned the public to be vigilant after terror alert level 3 was hoisted nationwide, saying the Duterte government is "capable of lies and deception."
"Hindi pa natin alam yung katotohanan diyan. We can give them the benefit of the doubt na maaaring there is such a threat," De Lima said.
"Pero sa mga nangyayari ngayon and based on my experience na I see that they're capable of lies and deception, we have to be very vigilant. We have to be discerning about what’s happening kasi sa kaso ko, sobrang kasinungalingan ang fini-feed nila sa publiko,” she added.
President Rodrigo Duterte had been accusing De Lima of having received payoffs from drug lords during her term as secretary of the Department of Justice. De Lima had since denied such allegations.
“They can be capable of lies and deception also in graver matters on national security,” De Lima said.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa said the country is under terror alert level 3 after he presented the suspects behind the foiled bombing attempt near the United States embassy in Manila.
Dela Rosa said the public can expect more checkpoints put up, as he urged the public to be alert and cautious.
