MANILA - Former President Fidel V. Ramos expressed hope that the Duterte administration will still give the 31st anniversary of the People Power Revolution due recognition as one of the country's treasures and gifts to the world.br />
In a forum in Manila on Monday, Ramos, who played a major part in the historic revolution, said, "Ito’y pamana ng ating Inang Bayan sa buong mundo. This is a legacy of an exercise of a peaceful democracy done by Filipinos in 1986 that must be given to the world as our pamana or legacy".br />
Palace officials earlier said the commemoration of the bloodless revolt’s anniversary will be "simple and quiet" as the Duterte administration opts to "move on from just celebrating the past.”br />

The upcoming EDSA anniversary celebration will be low-key compared to previous years as it will be done within Camp Aguinaldo instead of its usual venue at the People Power monument at the corner of White Plains and EDSA in Quezon City.

"Hindi ko maintindihan kung bakit muted, reduced, or downplayed ang celebration. Iyan dapat taon-taon lumalaganap," Ramos said of the Duterte government’s plan.

He added the current administration should not use "traffic" as an excuse not to celebrate one of the country's important moment in history.

"Last year panahon ni President Noynoy, kahit sa tingin ko mas mabigat traffic noon, nagkaroon sila ng magandang selebrasyon. Pati yung unang araw, February 22, may flower offering, wreath laying, sinasama lahat ng sambayanang Pilipino," he said.
